Contemporary Worship Normay Wiebe has been the Contemporary Worship Coordinator at Bethel since 1998. This is how she describes the contemporary worship services. The 9:45 Service Ø is a 45-minute service where we gather for contemporary worship. We use an informal order of service with a full worship band to lead the congregation in a variety of current worship songs. Ø has as sits central focus God’s Word. Bethel’s pastors bring the Good News in messages that speak to the heart. Ø runs at the same time as the Christian education hour, so there are many adults in this service while children and youth are elsewhere in their age-specific gatherings. Ø features drama and video presentations on a regular basis. Ø celebrates Holy Communion on the 3rd Sunday of the month. The 11:00 am service Ø has a relaxed, joyful atmosphere with more music than the 9:45 service. The music, led by various worship bands, enlivens the service. The congregation actively participates, singing a wide variety of current worship songs as well as new arrangements of favorite old hymns. Ø has as its central focus God’s Word. The message at this service is the same as at the 9:45 and 8:30 services. Ø is certainly very child-friendly. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” Each week they are invited to join the pastor up front for a special object lesson. There are so many children, we often joke that the floor feels like it’s tilting when they go forward. Ø has weekly bulletin activities for children aged Ø features drama and video presentations on a regular basis. Ø celebrates Holy Communion on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. |
